Q: What are costumes?

A: Costumes are items that are equipped into a character's costume slots to change their appearance. Costumes are decorative items only. They are worn over a character's existing armor without affecting any stats.

Q: What are the costume slots?

A: These are two costume slots located on your character portrait—one for your costume and one for your costume’s headpiece. There are toggles that allow you to choose whether to display or hide either piece of your costume. The costume slots only hold costumes, not armor or other items.

Q: Do the costumes come with masks?

A: Yes. These matching headpieces are unique to their respective costumes.

Q: Can I get a costume headpiece from a festival or in any other way?

A: No. In order to get a costume headpiece, you must buy the costume. Festival hats can still be obtained in the normal fashion (participating in seasonal events), but they aren't the same as costume headpieces or masks.

Q: How much do costumes cost?

A: Each costume costs $6.99 (€5.99/£4.99). This is a one-time purchase: once owned, costumes can be created for any character on your account.

Q: How do I buy a costume?

A: You can buy one or both costumes at the In-Game Store or the NCsoft Store. Once purchased, item keys will automatically be applied to your account. After you have made your purchase, speak to a [Costume Maker] NPC to receive your costume. These NPCs can be found next to the [Festival Hats] NPC in Kamadan, Lion's Arch, the Shing Jea Monastery, and the Great Temple of Balthazar.

Please note! If you make a purchase at the NCsoft Store while Guild Wars is running, you must close the game and relaunch in order to activate your purchase. If you purchase from the In-Game Store, you do not have to relaunch the game.

Q: What payment methods are available?

A: You may use a credit card (we accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express, and JCB) or PayPal.

Q: When will I be charged for this?

A: You will be charged when you successfully confirm your purchase. You will receive an email confirmation that the transaction has gone through as well as the costume serial key for your records.

Q: Are they only available as a download?

A: Yes. Costumes are a digital purchase and are not available as a physical item.

Q: Once I've purchased a costume for my account, how do I receive it?

A: To receive your costume:

  • Talk to any [Costume Maker]. These NPCs can be found next to the [Festival Hats] NPCs in Kamadan, Lion's Arch, and the Shing Jea Monastery. They are also located in the Great Temple of Balthazar.

  • The costumes that you have purchased for your account will appear in the NPC's dialog window. Select the one you want to create.

  • After you make your selection, the costume you chose will appear in your inventory (if there is a free slot), customized for the current character. To create a costume for another character on your account, simply talk to the [Costume Maker] with the other character.

Q: What are Costume Makers?

A: [Costume Makers] are special NPCs that create costumes for your characters. Once you have purchased a costume from the In-Game Store or the NCsoft Store, speak to a Costume Maker to receive your costume(s).

Q: How do I put my costume on?

A: The costume will appear in your inventory. Double-click the costume icon to equip it, or just drag the icon from your inventory into the costume slot in your character panel.

Q: Do the costumes have any armor value?

A: No. Costumes are decorative items, so your character retains the stats of the armor they are currently wearing. When equipped to the costume slot, a costume will change the appearance of your character, but their stats will remain unchanged.

Q: Can I add runes or insignias to my costume?

A: No. Costumes are purely cosmetic and can't be enhanced.

Q: Can I dye my costume?

A: Yes. Costumes can be dyed.

Q: Can I wear my costume in player vs. player?

A: You can leave your costume equipped, but it will not appear in PvP matches.

Q: Can any character on my account use the costume I purchased?

A: Absolutely! Once you have purchased a costume, any character on your account can wear it. Each character just needs to speak to the [Costume Maker] to receive a costume.

Q: What happens if I accidentally delete my costume?

A: If you delete a costume from your inventory, just speak to a [Costume Maker] to receive a new one. There is no limit on how many times this can be done.

Q: Are costumes tradable?

A: No. Sorry, you can't trade costumes.

Q: Can I wear my festival hat in the new costume headpiece slot?

A: Yes. From now on, [Festival Hats] NPCs will only give out festival hats that fit in the new costume headpiece slot. You can have festival hats and headgear equipped at the same time, since they occupy different slots on the character panel. Similar to costume headpieces, when festival hats are equipped, they will not alter your character's stats.

If you have legacy festival hats on your account, talk to a [Festival Hats] NPC—he'll give you new versions of your existing hats that fit in the costume headpiece slot. [Costume Makers] will not hand out festival hats; they will only hand out costumes that have been purchased for your account.
